Thanks to my good friend Sarah Mattingly, I currently have a number of photos on display at The Java Shack in Arlington, Virginia. I am not sure how long the work will be displayed, but if you’re in the area, please stop by to check them out, and enjoy some coffee and light fare while you’re there.
Here are some images of my work hanging on the walls of Java Shack.

The Java Shack — Getting There
I’m so proud of you and your work. You have an incredible eye, and your work deserves to be shared and seen my others. Thanks for making your private passion public.
Awww. Of course, it helps to have someone in my life that fully supports and believes in my talent. Thank you!! LLL
Congrats!
Thanks Rod!
Amazing! Congratulations!
Thank you, Christie!
Matthew, this is great! Such a big step to get your first work out in public. It looks gorgeous, and I hope you have them marked for sale so people can begin collecting
Thanks Nancy! I didn’t tag the images, but I will probably get back over to the shop to mark them with names and price them. Clearly, need to get my act together. I’ll learn as I do more showings.
Congratulations! — it looks wonderful, both as individual images and as a collection.
Thanks Victoria! One of the images is from the photowalk we did on the Mall at dusk.
Congratulations Matthew. They look fantastic. I just know this is the first of many great showings for you!!!
Thanks Sarah. I really appreciate all the support and encouragement. You really sparked a lot of thought about my focus when we were hanging the images.
Hi Matthew — I was in the neighborhood yesterday, doing battle with the County, so I dropped by Java Shack yesterday and saw THE WORK! And very nice work it is too! Loved the B&W flowers and coffee service pieces on the left wall especially. But do me a favor and next time (and there’ll be many of them), make BIGGER PHOTOS and smaller frames! Your work is good enough and strong enough. The photos got a little lost in the chaos that is The Shack and your photos are too good to be overlooked. Who says “size doesn’t matter”?
Thanks Dwight! I appreciate the feedback about the image-to-frame ratio. I, admittedly, was rushing to get work framed for this space, and didn’t put much thought into the ratios. I knew the space was small, so I didn’t think larger prints would work. Given your comment, and looking at the images, I could have just gone with larger prints and simple, narrow frames. I’m not even touching the size matters thing.
Cheers!
Matthew, I am so happy for you!! I’m eager to finally see up close the fruits of your talent and labor. Also, the opportunity to purchase a “Matthew Lyons” work of art is like a scoop of homemade ice cream on an already delicious dessert — extra great. Congratulations!!
